#100HappyDays Challenge Day 30

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 30 says to pay it forward.

Do you want to do a small bit of philanthropy to reel in good karma? Pay for the person behind you. This is totally strange and might freak them out. Run away if you feel too uncomfortable to explain.

I bought the book because I wanted to do this challenge.

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 29

100HappyDays Challenge Day 29 asks you to sing to release stress. If you can’t sing, then the other alternative is to listen to your favorite songs and maybe hum along. Lyrics which talk about situations you’re experiencing are the most relatable to you.

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 28

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 28 says to declutter your personal schedule. Do you really need to keep so many appointments for your social calendar? Would you benefit more by leaving at least one day free to relax, and recharge for the following week?

I have a relative who is a social butterfly. She flirts from one flower to another. Then she decided she was too stressed living in a rat race because there are so many flowers and so little time to visit them. She decided to fly far away, to a land where there were few flowers. She would not be distracted to visit many flowers then.

Don’t be like this butterfly. You don’t have to migrate far away to obtain space for yourself. You can create personal space by saying no to many commitments.

Haiku

The butterfly flew

to a land where she could rest,

her tired wings still.

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 26

100HappyDays Challenge Day 26 says to look for kindness and love in people. There are reasons to be happy when you find good people who radiate positivity. If you are going through a rough patch in life right now, remember the good people. There will be more of them. You just need to hold on to the hope and start vibrating your own good energy. Like energies will attract one another. People with love, kindness and warmth will find you and show similar positive energies.

What happens when someone who is unkind but is attracted to you and takes advantage of you? You can gently refuse to engage with them.

I like to read. I seldom have dedicated time to read any book, save for newspapers. I try to squeeze in some time to read a few pages of a book.

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 24

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 24 asks us to take care of our body. Do you feel sick anywhere in your body? Do you think you should get a blood test to check for blood glucose level, liver function and kidney filtration level? Today is the challenge to go for a medical checkup and submit your blood for tests. You should prepare your body one day in advance by fasting overnight. This means you have to stop eating by 12 midnight. Early in the morning, you may only drink plain water. Get to your GP’s clinic early in the morning for your doctor to withdraw a syringe of blood. Then you can eat normally to replenish.

I went for my first blood test as an older adult in late 2018. This event changed my life dramatically. It saved me from suffering sudden unknown heart problems.

I fasted overnight and to save myself from discomfort, I traveled to the clinic at 8:30 am, to be first in the queue. The clinic opened at 9 am but the queue started forming at 8:35 am. My GP took my blood pressure reading early in the morning at 9 am. It was high. I couldn’t believe this. I told my GP I would buy a sphygmomanometer, to read and record my BP. I did that every morning and bedtime and recorded in a small notebook. At the end of one month, the findings were clear – I had high BP.

My blood test results showed reasonably good readings except for cholesterol. My GP said it was probably due to genetically inherited medical condition. High cholesterol and BP went together like a pair of rogues. I was prescribed medication to help handle these problems. I’m sharing my story to persuade others on the importance of blood pressure readings and blood tests.

Please get your blood test done.

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 23

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 23 says to perform a loving kindness meditation (metta meditation). The link takes you to a webpage by Wikipedia, which explains metta meditation.

Briefly, metta meditation prepares us to love ourselves. When we love ourselves, then only we can offer kindness and love to others.

Before you start with a metta meditation, you should be comfortably seated. Breathe deeply. Try to remember memories where you experienced kindness and love. Recite the metta prayer.

Metta prayer:

May I be happy,

may I be well.

May I be free from suffering,

may I be peaceful and at ease.

Buddha metta via Golubnichy, 2017.

Practice saying this metta several time and believe in it. You will have a positive attitude and approach your day with enough personal conviction to tackle your responsibilities.

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 22

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 22 says to make a photo album. We have to select our favorite photographs and assemble them in this album. This will serve to remind us of our happy moments in time. Remembering the lingering memories might bring back some happiness.

Instead of a photo album, I chose to gather a few of my favorite water color drawings. I have happy memories of drawing and painting them in.

Dreaming of doing art.
Dreaming of young plant growing, blooming flowers and Fall. Planting, nurturing, maturing, harvesting.

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 21

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 21 says to create a music playlist for your exercise time.

I like oldies because they have been played so many times almost every day, that those songs have become familiar. I seldom tune in to the radio stations playing contemporary music. My music playlist would comprise of many old songs.
