#100HappyDays Challenge Day 24

#100HappyDays Challenge Day 24 asks us to take care of our body. Do you feel sick anywhere in your body? Do you think you should get a blood test to check for blood glucose level, liver function and kidney filtration level? Today is the challenge to go for a medical checkup and submit your blood for tests. You should prepare your body one day in advance by fasting overnight. This means you have to stop eating by 12 midnight. Early in the morning, you may only drink plain water. Get to your GP’s clinic early in the morning for your doctor to withdraw a syringe of blood. Then you can eat normally to replenish.

I went for my first blood test as an older adult in late 2018. This event changed my life dramatically. It saved me from suffering sudden unknown heart problems.

I fasted overnight and to save myself from discomfort, I traveled to the clinic at 8:30 am, to be first in the queue. The clinic opened at 9 am but the queue started forming at 8:35 am. My GP took my blood pressure reading early in the morning at 9 am. It was high. I couldn’t believe this. I told my GP I would buy a sphygmomanometer, to read and record my BP. I did that every morning and bedtime and recorded in a small notebook. At the end of one month, the findings were clear – I had high BP.

My blood test results showed reasonably good readings except for cholesterol. My GP said it was probably due to genetically inherited medical condition. High cholesterol and BP went together like a pair of rogues. I was prescribed medication to help handle these problems. I’m sharing my story to persuade others on the importance of blood pressure readings and blood tests.

Please get your blood test done.
