The woman lived in a condo apartment which was built in the semi-detached style. Every level had two units, which shared a common boundary wall. At the verandah level, she could look into her semi-detached neighbor’s verandah and vice versa. She could also hear her neighbors talking because the boundary wall was thin.
Her neighbors were no ordinary family. They ran a pyramid style business WFH. They entertained guests every week, to court their patronage into buying their products.
The woman seldom used her living room as her sitting room because she put her storage boxes there. Her family said that room had no privacy as the adjacent block’s apartments could see and hear them. Even after they installed venetian blinds, it was half the help as although the view was blocked by the blinds, yet voices carried over to the adjacent block. The woman and her family used a middle room, the study room, as their sitting room. From there and from the kitchen, they could see the living room.
The woman sometimes saw a shadow move across the living room, walking as though it was not obstructed by the stacks of storage boxes there. “It must be a trick of light, like when the clouds move across the sun or light,” she thought.
Yet there was something wrong in her logical reasoning. The shadow could move from one end of the breadth of the sitting room, across the breadth, to the other end, and then it made its way back to its original starting point, and disappeared.
Sometimes, the shadow moved only in one direction, and disappeared into the boundary wall.
If the shadow was caused by the a cloud moving across the sun, then other clouds may follow the similar path, in the same direction, from left to right. She had never seen a cloud move from left to right, then another cloud moving from right to left.
She felt scared. What did she see?
This strange happening was not a one time occurrence; not a one trick pony event. The woman saw the shadow moving left to right, and then right to left, on different days.
She could not explain it. She told her family members but no one believed her.
There is a plausible explanation for this moving shadow. It is a rather long story, which will be continued in another scary story.
