scary story is a prompt from Rojie. Here is another post, Chapter 2.

There are speakers somewhere in this room. She looked around. The walls are blank. She can’t believe this. Where are they hiding? Can they be camouflaged against the walls? She has watched videos of artists painting people into the landscape. She stretched out her arms and started feeling the walls for holes, and abnormalies. Overhead! They must be above the ceiling. She can hear many people having a discussion. If only she had a ladder to climb up to reach the ceiling; then she would put her ear against the ceiling to try to listen closer to the voices. Alas, this room is bare; she has no props to help her climb. The walls are smooth.

Wait! What’s that? Are they talking about her? She feels afraid. How do they know about her? From where can they see her? She definitely can’t see them. Is there a camera hidden somewhere? She looks all around her. Nothing but bare walls. There has to be something. Maybe there can be a trap door hidden somewhere. Just like the way she fell through the floor of the rooftop, to land here.

“She’s trapped here,” a female voice says.

She thinks that is the leader of the pack. The other voices acquiescence.

“She’ll be here forever!” A male voice pips.

“She’s be our new friend to accompany us!” Yet another female chimes in.

She can’t see anybody and yet she hears people talking. Is she going mad? She thinks, she’s not sick. She’s stressed because she is trapped in this room.

She knows about the mental illness called schizophrenia, where sick people hear voices. She knows she has been under extreme stress and that may trigger her brain to think she receives auditory stimulations. What determines the interpretation of the stimulations has not been analyzed. Perhaps the brain simply replays memories of old conversations.

It is too much. She uses her hands to cover her ears. There! It is so much better. She can’t hear a thing now. It is so peaceful. She confronts her fear of schizophrenia and wins when her brain realizes the voices are fake and ignores them. She defeats her old demons.

But she can’t do anything without her hands. She needs her arms and hands to help herself find a way out of here.

She starts to use her hands to feel the walls. Since all the four walls are bare and they all look alike, she decides to move in a clockwise direction.

She is meticulous in her search as she runs her hands along the stretch of each wall. “Wall Number One”, she counts. “Nothing” she says. She continues in her clockwise direction.

“Wall Number Two” she counts. “Nothing”, she says.

“Wall Three,” she begins to feel fatigue. Nothing, and her heart drops.

The last wall. This has to be the wall that has something to show the way out. She is short, but she stretches her arms as high as she can, to feel the wall. It is smooth, like the rest of the previous three walls. Now she feels fear. How can she find her way out of this strange room without a door? She is emotional and can’t help herself. She begins to cry. Her tears drop down. She looks down. The wall ends at the skirting. It looks strange. There’s a gap between the wall and skirting. It is like the wall does not meet the skirting smoothly. She can not believe her eyes. How can the wall float above the skirting? She bends down to feel the gap.

The wall flips forwards like a swinging door. It is not a brick wall. It is a gypsum board. In her haste to feel for a mechanism, she fails to detect that the wall is fake. She lurches forward with the momentum and falls forward. She manages to clear through the opening, just before the wall swings back to its vertical position, shutting the entry.

She falls hard on the front of her body. This floor is bare and the flooring didn’t help any to cushion her fall. She is hurting. Then she realizes she is free of the previous room! She is so relieved. Is she dreaming? She pinched herself. She was too busy searching above the ground that she missed looking at the skirting bordering the wall and the floor. She could kick herself for her own stupidity.

Where is she now?
