I was young for my age and not up to par with my peers. Some tried to help me by nudging me along. Others simply took the easier way out by ignoring my signs and symptoms. Birds of a feather, fly together. I was on the ground.

My elders were too old to understand. Blame it on the generation gap. They would not take advice from their peers.

I tried to fit in. After graduating from high school, I tried to join the rat race. My aunts told my elders to send me to college but they said I was “homely” and unsuitable.

In my first job, I couldn’t blend in. I wasn’t prepared in all aspects. I didn’t know it was possible to work, save and send myself to college.

I tried a few jobs. After around a decade, I found a job where the original interviewer had rejected me, on the grounds that I had to travel a far distance to the office. It was fated that I work in that company as I was accepted on my second application. I loved that place, my peers, and my bosses.
