Scary Story #8 for Rojie’s prompt – traditional cosmetic surgery

The woman went to visit her distant relative. He was an old uncle. He was very aged and had almost retired from everything, except one. He could still do traditional cosmetic surgery. It involved the insertion of a very fine gold needle, into a spot in the face, where there was plenty of fat tissue. The introduction of a foreign object would stimulate the tissue to generate growth to heal. Subsequently, the face would look brighter and younger.

The old man showed her a tiny bottle of needles. He poured out the contents on the table before him, and told her to choose a needle.

The woman was afraid.

“You will remain beautiful. You will be a ravishing beauty, admired by many,” he said.

Still, the woman was afraid. She had heard about this traditional method of cosmetic implant. The old fathers and mothers of friends and relatives sometimes talked about it.

There was a price to pay.

Once a needle is inserted, it will be very difficult to extract it. Usually the original traditional man had to personally extract the needle. In the absence of the traditional cosmetic “surgeon”, the receiver of the implant would suffer physical pains, psychological fears and emotional distress, for want of deliverance from the complications of this implant.

In contemporary times, the equivalent cosmetic surgery would involve injecting botox. Back then, the old traditional people did not have access to botox or advanced medical knowledge.
