
On doctor’s orders, I started my exercise regime – Exercise Everyday 30 Day Challenge. I intend to renew this challenge every 30 days.
June 26 2019 – 2.6 km in 45 minutes. I never knew I could brisk walk this far. Yay me! Walked to a convenience store to buy newspapers.
June 29 Sat. – 1.7 km in 25 min. As you can see, I slacked off 2 days because of other commitments. In the evening, walked another 1.3 km because I had to walk to run errands. Walked to the nearest traffic light crossing, crossed it and walked the return journey home.
June 30 Sun. – 1.7 km in 20 min. Pace quickened? Took 5 minutes less than previous record.
July 3 Wed. – 1.7 km in 25 min. Again, a 2 day slack.
July 4 Thur. – 2.6 km in 45 min. Walked to the convenience store for newspapers. All the 2.6 km walks are to the store.
July 6 Sat. – 2.6 km in 45 min. In the early evening, walked another 1.3 km (untimed). Walked to the store. Evening walk was from church to the mall where we took a cab home.
July 7, Sun. – 2.6 km in 50 min.
July 9, Tue. – 2.6 km in 50 min.
July 11, Thur. – 2.6 km in 50 min.
July 12, Fri. – 5.2 km (8200 steps) untimed. Walked to a parcel collection center, and then to the mall for a drink and then the train station to catch the subway back.
July 13 Sat. – 10,700 steps or 6.7 km (untimed approximately 6 hours). Walked along a long bridge where the main attraction was a line of vending machines. Walked to the center of shops and bought a pack of mixed choc snacks. Walked back along the bridge and took the train to church.
July 14 Sun. – 9,918 steps or 6.3 km (untimed). Roughly 5 1/2 hours. Walked around an art gallery in town.
July 16, Tue. – 9362 steps or 5.6 km (untimed). Total journey with bus, train, walking, bus and another bus took 4 hours 15 mins.
July 17, Wed. – 6988 steps or 4.5 km (untimed). Walked along an old street but this was interrupted by rain so took bus to the photo store to get supplies instead.
July 18, Thur. – 8859 steps or 5.5 km (untimed). Returned to the same street as yesterday because the mission was interrupted by rain.
July 19, Fri. – 7443 steps (4.7 km). Untimed. Walked around a jewellery exhibition.
July 20, Sat. – 2.6 km in 50 min. My regular route.
July 22, Mon. – 9762 steps, or 5.8 km (untimed). Walked around a cultural hub where stores sold ethnic products like organic perfumes, scented wood & etc.
July 23, Tue. – 9784 steps or 5.9 km (untimed). Walked along a river with many eateries. Lost weight. Presently at near even number.
July 25 – Thur. 6500 steps or 3.8 km (untimed). Walked around the office hub area of town.
July 26 – Fri. 4335 steps or 2.5 km untimed. Took public transport to two different photo developing stores to collect and send film.
Aug. 1 2019, Thur. – 6387 steps or 3.9 km (untimed). Walked to train station, took train to town and then walked around town.
Aug. 3 2019 Sat. – 7902 steps or 5 km. Walked from a bus stop to an exhibition center and walked around the hall, then walked back to the subway station to return home.
August 5 2019 Monday – 5911 steps or 3.4 km. Walked from bus stop to the beach, jetty and then back to bus stop. It was windy but the air did not smell salty. Saw many people fishing for hobby and for the dinner plate. A kindly elderly man guided a young father on where to cast his fishing lie to catch small fish for his son.
Aug. 6 2019 Tue. – Took bus to the book store for large sheet of paper board. Walked a bit to reach the book shop, walked around the complex and walked in the reverse direction back to the bus stop to catch the bus back home. Distance covered on foot: 3725 steps (2.2 km).
August 7 2019 Wed. – Took bus to the one and only store that sold b/w instant Polaroid film. Walked from train station to store and reverse direction back to station for the ride back. Distance covered on foot: 5281 steps or 3.1 km.
Aug. 10 Sat. – 1.3 km from church to the train station.
August 11 2019 Sun. – 2.6 km in 45 minutes, on my usual route. I had no exercise the past 3 days and my feet looked weird.
Aug. 13 2019 Tue. – 6656 steps or 4 km. Walking around to look at architecture of buildings and then to shop at a mall. I had to buy some particular brands of groceries that were only sold at this place.
Aug. 14 2019 Wed. – 2.6 km. Walk to buy newspapers.
Aug. 15 2019 Thur. – 2.6 km. I walked my usual route to purchase newspapers. Alas, the store had run out of the daily paper so I walked to a different shop to buy that particular paper. Then I bought some groceries too, since I was already there.
August 16 2019 Fri. – 2.6 km. The store ran out of newspapers so I bought them from another shop. Today was weird. There was a thin snake on the concrete pavement. I shrugged it off as I assumed it was a rubber toy. Its head was tiny but I could see its jaws were opened. I walked on to my destination. On my way back, I had to walk along the same route. I bent over the snake and realized it was real but deceased. Its lower jaw bone with teeth, had detached from the flesh of its lower jaw, because of decay.
The reptile must have dropped down from the fence running the perimeter of the pavement. There was lush vegetation, a type of creeper, growing thickly covering the fence. There were also short shrubs and bushes along the perimeter of the fence.
A couple walked by and the man told his lady not to step on the snake. She reacted by sidestepping. This was the most unusual event in my mundane, routine walk to buy newspapers.

Aug. 19 2019 Mon. – 1.7 km in 25 min. Evening walk because I had just returned from a day running errands.
Aug. 20 2019 Tues. – 1.7 km in 25 min. Lunchtime walk at noon because I had another errand to do at 3 pm. I went to buy some herbs for boiling.
Aug. 21 2019 Wed. – Light drizzle so I skipped my walk, which I later regretted because I could have walked with an umbrella as the rain was barely there.
Aug. 22 2019 Thur. – 1.7 km in 20 min.
Aug. 23 2019 Fri. – 1.7 km in 20 mins.
Aug. 24 Sat. – 8864 steps or 5.7 km. I walked to an art exhibition hall from a train station. Then went to a mall to pay for two pieces of roller blinds. Then I took the reverse journey, walked back to the art room for a last look before walking to the bus stop for my bus home.

Oct. 8 Tue. – 1.7 + 0.85 = 2.55 km. I had to walk the extra 0.85 km because our bus home got stuck in a traffic jam due to two smashed fender bender cars blocking the road. Some bus passengers told the driver they wanted to get off the bus because they didn’t want to wait for the police to arrive to sort out the mess. An ambulance came but the drivers of the two cars had abandoned their cars. Guess they didn’t want to do the breath analyzer tests, show their driving licences, or get into more trouble. I drew a cartoon to remember this incident.
Oct. 9 Wed. – I felt tired and skipped this walk.

Then I returned home to wait 1 1/2 hours for my turn. My second trip out was to actually see my physician. On my 4th walk back home, a man was waiting at the traffic light crossing, expecting to talk to me about his desires. I walked almost diagonally across the road to avoid him.

Oct. 31 2019 Thur. I only walked for 10 minutes to the nearest store to buy newspapers. I didn’t walk 1.7 km today.
Nov. 1 2019 Fri. – Every Fri. is my off day for walking since I have to leave home after 7 am, to travel out to the outskirts.

April 24 2020 – I have stopped walking due to my fear and uneasiness over Covid-19, which is looming large over my geographical region and community. Some people are asymptomatic and live undetected among us. They may also be infectious. God help us.
