Meditative post on Planting Grass

What is Meditative about planting grass?

(1) Before, the small patch of soil looked like this:

Bird of Paradise plants with orange flowers.

These plants propagate by underground roots. They were pretty but looked untidy. Some rats dug tunnels under the wall to exit/ enter via tunnels leading to outside the wall.

After plants were removed, the patch looked like this:

The ground soil was flat and required a spade to dig and loosen the earth. The large chunks were exposed to the sun to dry and in time, may loosen when knocked apart. Dry soil is recommended for the soil preparation stage before planting. Dry soil breaks apart. Wet mud is not flexible to manipulate with.

I’ve always desired to look at a patch of green grass. The short grass suggests order to me. As opposed to tall, unruly plants having the rule of the lawn space. I spent years without a garden or potted [plants and I sorely missed them. Many of us who live in apartments will understand. I finally started some pots in 2015.

Today, the previous resident’s patch of wild plants were replaced by grass – cow grass. Because it is easy maintenance. Green is a cool color.

Green grass, cow grass.
Green grass, cow grass.

When I was a young child, I was told to always look at green grass early in the morning, immediately after waking up. I could look at grass by the roadside, while going to school in the morning. Anyone who has doubts should try this. Look at green grass, green leaves, green vegetables. Then look at reds. Ask yourself which color makes you feel cool.

Even if you have no land, you can have your small pot of green grass. Decades ago, it was common to see small pots painted with faces and have grass growing out of the head.
