Mindful Doodles #194

The old man has an attitude. If I can’t have what I covert, then nobody else should have it. It is a type of dog in the manger attitude.

Meditate to save the environment:

What can I do to recycle and reduce waste? This item of clothing used cloth made of cotton wool and threads. The stitching required human labor, and electricity. If you had bought the clothing, you would have used money, which is also a manmade commodity. Energy may have been spent to earn this money.

If I donate this clothing, someone can use it and all the resources spent on producing this item, are put to good use, until this item is totally worn out and un-usable. By extending the life span of this item, I am saving a considerable amount of used resources from being needed to use on making another similar item of clothing. I save a tiny quantity of earth’s resources, and manmade resources. I know manmade labor and electricity are derived from natural resources so eventually, I’m saving earth’s resources.

Furthermore, if wasted clothing is buried in a landfill, it takes time for decomposition. Cotton requires 1 to 5 months to break down, while textiles with artificial fibers need more than 200 years to decompose. The process of decomposition usually produces harmful gas and by-products which can harm the environment.

The next time you clear out and renew your wardrobe, please donate your unwanted clothes. Thank you in advance for contributing efforts to conserve your environment and Earth.
