Healthy eating to lose weight in the long run is good. Quick fads may help to reduce weight but they are not sustainable.

  1. Do you eat a lot of junk food? Look at your body. It deserves to be treated better. Take care of yourself with self-love. You are what you eat. So eat healthy.
  2. In order to discover what you’ve been eating, you need to keep track of your meals. Keep a food log and record your beverages too.   3. Look at the items in your food log. Eating healthy means you have vegetables, meat, fish, dairy, grains, nuts and fruit. White meat is healthier than red meat. Processed foods like noodles, canned food, frozen food and snacks are unhealthy and should be eaten sparingly. Different colored vegetables contain their specific types of vitamins. Buy green vegetables, orange carrots, yellow capsicum, dark red beetroot, purple and orange sweet potatoes, yellow corn, and etc. This colorful vegetable consumption is called the “rainbow diet”.
  4. Buy healthy green groceries and dry groceries in order to change your diet and menu.
  5. Use a standard sized bowl to measure your servings for your meals.
  6. Drink a glass of water with every meal.
  7. Do exercise regularly. If you have no access to other forms of exercise, brisk walking is also good. Usually, a G.P. would recommend walking on alternate days, for 45 minutes per session. Try to find a partner for your exercise sessions, or make friends along the way.
  8. Besides eating healthy and exercising, you need rest, social activity, good relationships with a few close people, and faith in your choice of spirituality. When you have a balance of these, you are too busy to turn to eating comfort food.
  9. If you have food allergies, search online for alternatives. Many people are lactose intolerant and take alternatives.
  10. If you want to fast once a week or once monthly, you must consult your regular physician to get the green light. Your regular doctor will know if you are healthy enough to do fasting.
  11. When you do your weekly shopping, buy slightly more vegetables and fruit than what you use for a week. The extras are meant for making snacks. A salad bowl or fruit are healthy snacks.
  12. Try to reduce your use of sugar, salt, caffeine, artificial flavorings, alcohol and other unhealthy stuff.
  13. If you make a mistake with your food choices for one day, don’t feel discouraged. You can always wipe your slate clean and start again tomorrow.
  14. Concentrate on eating food to enjoy every bite. Don’t eat in front of a TV, computer screen or smartphone. You’ll stuff your face.
  15. Be happy when you’re changing your food habits. This way, you’ll be happy with yourself, because eating healthy is what you want.
