Attacking the bugs won’t stop you dreaming of them

If you attacked all the bugs in your home, will you stop dreaming of them? No.

The bug I hate most is the cockroach. Recently, just a couple of months ago, I called in the pest control company, to deal with cockroaches emerging from their hiding spots after dark. I showed a smacked specimen and the technician said, “Oh, the German one. I know how to get rid of them.”

Why is it when I live in Asia, I meet the migratory cockroach from Germany? I thought I would be squashing the Asian roach. While I was in the U.K., I didn’t see any migratory Asian roaches.

If you live in Asia, you’re likely to share your home with the Asian cockroach. The Asian cockroach, aka Blattella asahinai, is older and spawned its newer offspring, the Blattella germanica, around 2000 years ago, in the 1700s.

The Asian cockroach’s characteristics are its attraction to light, propensity to live indoors like humans, and takes flight when escaping from predators and killers. Have you ever heard the buzz of cockroach wings as it encircles you?

It thrives alongside hardworking humans who labor deep into the night with electric light. It used to live outdoors but developed a taste for human culinary delights highlighted by artificial lighting. Light aids its scavenger’s hunt for food scraps. It. may hanker to groom itself by gnawing soap, toothpaste and anything tasty it encounters in its trail.
