This is the scary story of how she broke her foot.
One morning in July 2026, she looked out of her second floor window and saw that her semi-detached house’s neighbor, had thrown a large styrofoam lid on the roof of her porch.
“Oh no, not again. The neighbors have the obsession of dropping plastic screws, clothes hangers, and now, this styrofoam box lid. Looks like I’ll have to climb down to retrieve the lid and place it on their side of the boundary wall.”
She had performed that task countless times before and she didn’t think much of it.
However, she has been under the weather and not feeling alert as the same neighbors have been waking her up three to four times every night. They are disturbing her sleep to blackmail her. They had asked her to fight with another neighbor, because they are too cowardly to do so themselves.
That morning, she was not quite herself when she prepared the long ladder, to position on the porch roof, before climbing down. She couldn’t think clearly. She forgot the correct position of placement, to allow the ladder to be nearest to her window, before she started climbing down. She used a chair to stand on it, before sitting on the ledge of her window sill. Her legs vaulted over the sill and reached for the nearest rung of her ladder. It wasn’t there! bShe lost her balance and started dropping vertically down against the wall of her second level.
She was shocked. How could she have missed the ladder? She was descending at slow speed, like a slow elevator downwards. She didn’t feel like she was falling. She felt like she was being lowered down at slow speed. She was afraid, but her fear was lessened by the fact that she had confidence she was being helped. She had never fallen from such a height. She thought her descent down would be quick, because her body weight would add the force and momentum.
However, since her descent was slow, she had time to feel scared. How did she put herself in such danger? She had made her climb down the ladder many times, without any incident. What happened to her today?
She finally touched the flooring of the flat roof. It was hard. She felt pain in her right foot. She thought she had better climb up before her pain grew worse and render her immobile. She repositioned the ladder to get it nearer to the wall of her second level.
She overcame her pain and climbed up. She laid on her bed to rest. Her body was all right. It was her right foot which took the brunt of the fall. She could walk slowly. She could position her right foot so that the weight would rest on the side which was not injured.
She didn’t put much emphasis on her injury. She continued her day as usual. She couldn’t walk outdoors to water the plants in the garden. She called her relative to relate the day’s event to him. He advised her to visit a hospital to get her injured foot X-rayed.
She could sleep that night. She didn’t feel any pain if she didn’t flex her right foot.
The following day, she decided to listen to her relation’s advice. She chose the smallest hospital so that the staff would not be overwhelmed with many patients.
ER was called Urgent Care Ward in this small hospital. She had her foot X-rayed in the radiology department, diagnosed by a doctor, and directed to a specialist for further treatment. Cool. All necessary treatment could be done in the same hospital. Her specialist prescribed an anti-inflammation drug, and a technician fitted her injured foot with an Apollo Walker, which was a boot with thick sole and padded body to help cushion the pressure on her injury.
The Apollo even had tiny pumps to squeeze air out of the boot to tighten the grip and reduce friction between any gap between the boot and her leg. This Walker is like the best walker invention for her foot injury.
She resolved to stop climbing out of the window to reach her ladder. This fall was scary. It showed her how vulnerable and exposed she was. Her neighbor would eventually have to retrieve their junk themselves.
