What is the Jamthund?
It is actually the Swedish Elkhound.
Where does the Jamthund come from?
It was originally reared in the forests of Sweden’s north. As a forrest dog, it was trained to hunt bear, elk. and lynx. It is Sweden’s national dog and used in the country’s army as their military dog.
What is the advantage of the Jamthund?
This dog interacts with humans well and is a good hunting dog.
What is the disadvantage of keeping a Jamthund?
Its has strong hunting instincts and may behave like a predator when around other dogs and domestic pets.
How big can a Jamthund grow into?
The Jamthund/ Swedish Elkhound, can grow to its potential of between 20 to 26 inch tall. Its weight can reach 66 pounds.
How old can the Swedish Elkhound live up to?
Its life span can be between 12 to 13 years.
Based on one photo, I see its fur to be a mix of white, black and grey.
