Rojie’s writing prompt for Sep 30 2026 is Have you ever let someone win an argument even though you knew you were right? Who? And why?
I have written a story to include another, older prompt found in Aug 24 2026; that is my favorite scary story prompt.
Yes, sometimes I let the other person win an argument even though they was wrong. That person can be anybody close or distant. I allow that person to win, because of the situation or circumstance.
There is someone in my neo natal family, who suffers from bipolar disorder. He shouts when he is angry. I seldom answer back or talk to him because I want to avoid confrontation. All the neighbors will hear his contorted version of fiction.
When I was a young adult, I stayed with a female old relative, nicknamed FOR, who used to gas light me because she couldn’t manipulate me into adopting her grand-daughter. I had experienced that she could not take no for an answer so I stayed quiet while she verbally abused me for everything she accused me of. She talked so loudly that the next door female neighbor FN1, heard. FN1 suspected things were wrong as she has known the old woman for many years and also knew that grand-daughter’s behaviors.
FN1 was so concerned about my well-being that she dropped by to check on me a few times, on different occasions. I was aware of her concern. I thought that there was nothing to be done, short of moving away. I could not speak up to refute FOR because she would argue and talk back fiercely. She persuaded all her family members, relatives and friends, to cast stones at me. I kept quiet, calm and peaceful. I had experienced this type of manipulation before. In her eyes, I was a loser.
I had malnutrition and my right hand was crippled by disorder. This was really scary for me as I lost the use of my dominant, writing hand. I trained my left hand to write and draw. I could draw with my left hand, and pass off some drawings, but not writing. My left handed script looked untidy and terrible.
I prayed and meditated every day. In my eyes, I was a winner, for remaining calm and sane.
One day, another female relative contacted me with an offer to relocate. I took it.
I consulted a doctor to heal my crippled hand. After about one year, my hand recovered. I was a loser when my body malfunctioned. Now, I am a winner because I have triumphed over disease.
How do I feel when a loser becomes a winner? I felt grateful – very grateful that I was allowed to live through that period, although I was in adversity.
