I’m writing for a 1 month long prompt writing challenge series. On May 5 2026, the prompt is “taste”.
“Grandma, that woman put something into your coffee mug,” I whispered into her left ear.
Grandma was too excited talking to the visitors. The significance of my words didn’t sink in. She continued being kept busy and unable to process the information I told her.
Grandma sipped her coffee!
Her face cringed.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“My coffee tasted weird.”
The woman said, “Maybe you need more sugar?”
“Yes, maybe its bitter because there is less sugar,” said Grandma.
“Here’s a teaspoon of sugar,” said the woman.
“Mmmm … it tastes better now.”
“After your coffee, we can go to the bank,” said the woman.
Grandma was surprised. “Why do we need to go to the bank?”
“We need to withdraw some money, remember? You promised to pay us a deposit before we make the transaction to purchase your house. We’ve already discussed this.”
Grandma nodded her head. “Yes, we’ll better hurry to the bank.”
