Meditate on Usefulness of Pockets
When I was a young adult, I used to think of ways to save money to pay my bills. I kept envelopes, which I used as “pockets”; outside my clothing’s pockets. These envelope pockets were used to save money. Every envelope had a label on it; the name of the bill to be paid. Whenever I withdrew my salary, I would stuff different amounts of money into each envelope/ pocket. The cash was for paying the bill for each utility or expense. When the time came for paying each bill that was due, I would take money out of the envelope/ pocket. If I had money left after stuffing each envelope pocket, I would use it for unforeseen bills like extra food items, or savings to buy big ticket items. If I had no money left after stuffing all my envelope pockets, It meant I could not afford to pay for any non-essential or luxury items.
I used this method as a discipline to out priority into paying bills and essentials.
