When did I feel the safety of a sanctuary to create?

When I’m in my sanctuary, I feel safe to create my writing and my art. My sanctuary is usually my home, or a quiet, private corner, to do my work. In order to understand what I mean, I have to relate my experience of the opposite; the violation of respectful boundaries.

Some years ago, I applied to submit in some artwork for display and sale. The host of the events space didn’t like me, for reasons best known to himself. He proceeded to speak loudly in a long monologue, about his opinions. He had low, negative, discriminated perspectives of me. He used a loud tone of voice, to ensure I heard him, and to stop contact with him. He achieved his goal. I never engaged in his projects again.

Although I had the safety of the sanctuary of my home, to create my works, I was unsupported in the public domain. I lacked the safety of a supportive place to exhibit or sell my works.
