Six Sentence Story May 25 2025 Sunday prompt is “lace”.
Early one morning, I was standing on the escalator going down to the basement’s supermarket, when I saw a familiar man crouched at the foot of this same escalator … I recognized him as a regular shopper in the same supermarket who often came in to buy greensduring the same time as I did.
When I reached the base of the escalator, I saw why he was there – his undone shoe lace was trapped in the conveyor belt of the escalator, and he was desperately tugging to free his shoe lace.
I sidestepped him and stood next to the wall, to get standing space to search my handbag for my emergency pair of scissors, which I found after a delay of rummaging through an assortment of all kinds of handbag junk.
I located the scissors and flashed it to the detained man; his imprisonment was over.
He grabbed the scissors from my hand and proceeded to cut at his shoelace; without trying to sever it to save as much length as possible to reuse the shoelace … I tried telling him to cut at the barest minimum to save the shoelace but he was too distraught to understand or to say thanks to me.
Freed at last, he continued to walk into the supermarket to complete his errand; returning a greeting to another shopper, who said he was glad to see him freed from his entrapment.
