Meditation on gratitude Sep 22 – 26 2025

When I meditate on my gratitude, I feel better. I still face my same, old life, but I appreciate my lucky breaks. These are what makes me grateful:

Pretty flowers in my neighborhood.

Tiny but mighty; pink & purple flowers appeal

My good blogger friend subtly (spelling?) reminded me that my writing had gone witless. So, this week, I’m on a different pen stroke, or keystroke. Thank you friend. You know who you are.

On Monday, we walked to the train station to catch two trains into another neighborhood. Why were two trains needed? Because we had to ride the second train from a cross-junction, to reach our destination. The matter of urgency was to buy an item of haberdashery. The item had to be a matching color to the fabric. For reasons unbeknown to us, the store that sold the fabric failed to stock the zip of the same color. That led us to the chase for the matching zip color.

Then we walked from the station to the shop. After the purchase, we walked the reverse direction back to the train station and rode the train to another neighborhood, to look into a book store. I found a book I liked but its accompanying accessory was stolen from its book case. After I pointed this out to the store assistant, he said he’ll sell it to me for 50% of its original cost. I was trying for a second copy in his storeroom but when he answered immediately with the offer of his discount, it meant he had no extra copy in his shop. I thanked him for his generosity. I chose 4 other books but my other family members who accompanied me on this trip could not find a single book or magazine that caught their attention or fancy.

One local chain of supermarket ran out of baking soda powder for domestic cleaning. We went weeks without this cheap pipe cleaner-declogger. It was hard to believe that even baking soda powder became a rare commodity that had to be hunted down with the same dedication as the zip. (Cue: canned laughter) Eventually we patronised a different supermarket chain to purchase the elusive baking soda powder. I plan to use this sparingly.

I casually looked at the shelf with convenient food and saw that logistics and supply issues had rendered the humble, ready-made cupcake temporarily extinct. Oh dear. What is one to do without cupcakes?

I had ticked off 3 items on my To-Do List.

  1. Zip
  2. Books
  3. Baking soda powder

Yay, because money can not buy everything or anything that is suffering supply chain woes because of tariffs.

So, I’m grateful I can still buy what I want.

You have lucky breaks too; don’t you think so? Join us in celebrating thanks, for life.

This is a widely read blog hop. My stats show an average of 500 views per Ten Things of Thankfulness (TToT) post for the first week immediately after posting. Thereafter, it still receives views every day, albeit at a slower pace. Currently, my 1st week of Sep. post is grossing 1500+ visits while the 2nd week is accumulating 800+.

Since I was invited to co-host to persuade more bloggers to join TToT, I try to read and comment to boost the participants’ visibility in blog feeds. Don’t mind me. I have no covert intentions of disturbing anybody’s equilibrium. We are here mainly for the purpose of blogging. Thank you for being here reading, blogging and commenting.

  1. I’m not sure where you are but soda crystals are also very effective on keeping a drains clean.

Yours is a lovely list, and I wish you a very peaceful week.

  2. I wonder what you were making that required a zip, I enjoy using my wife’s sewing machine – she bought it to do quilting but I like to make things, clothes and more often – repair clothes. I too love books, I cannot trust myself to go into a regular bookshop but this week I sent for four books from World of Books paying £16.99 for what would have cost £40.00 new! Firstly I wanted Arundati Roy’s novel “The Ministry of Utmost Happiness” but added two books of her essays and speeches and a book of poetry chosen for their suitability for reading aloud…
Have a good week and enjoy reading your new books!

  3. The zips are for clothes. I did read A. Roy’s “The God of Small Things” like a lifetime ago. I didn’t like it then. These days, I’m reading more nonfiction than fiction. Thank you for your well wishes.

  4. love your approach to TToT posts.
very …conversational (in that ‘sit at the kitchen table rather than the more formal living room’ kind of visit)

(speaking of widely read, I’ll be sending a new set of linkz this week for the month of October… I needed to update the Board of Co-Hostinae (in the Intro section) to get you and Cat (over at Egg in my pocket)on the Board
