I meditate about a CD and what it means to me
I know it is an old technology of media but it holds poignant memories for me. I last held a usable CD at the end of 2012, when I was packing up to shift. There were too many things to pack and so a whole drawer of CDs were trashed. The CD is an icon to my milestone when I packed to relocate elsewhere. The object and milestone are associated. I never bought another CD again in my new place. Besides, the technology was slowly phased out.
Second life of CDs
- As reflective surfaces to scare away birds. CDs are hung like on a mobile and the free swing movements scare away birds. It uses wind energy
- CDs and the nature of shiny reflection, is used in live camera streams to show invigilators that you are present online in front of your pc’s cam. Some candidates use camera stills. I know this because I was asked to hold a CD in my hand, in front of my pc’s cam.
