Known Timothee Chalamet does little for Complete Unknown: movie review Mar 3 – 8 2025

Timothee Chalamet is known for his role in Dune and was banked on to make known a Complete Unknown; which is a Bob Dylan biopic of his early years knocking on doors in the folk music industry.

Chalamet isn’t a complete unknown but he only pulled in twice the patrons in comparison to A Real Pain. We watched A Complete Unknown in the same theater as A Real Pain. A younger actor boosted the crowd by double the number of A Real Pain’s fans. In one week day screening, there were 15 in the hall, compared to the 7 in the latter title. Memoirs and biopics are not blockbusters in small communities.

Despite the shiny accolades in nominations or winnings of statues, the actual turn out of fans is anything but illustrious.

This script was based on the book Dylan Goes Electric, first published in 2015. According to the script, Joan Baez, the singer, probably played her part in distracting Bob Dylan from his then girlfriend, who is nicknamed as Sylvie Russo in the film. Dylan requested privacy and confidentiality in not naming his former real life girlfriend.

I have watched Dune, where Chalamet had a lead role. If my memory serves me correctly, he displayed a wider depth of emotions in Dune than A Complete Unknown.

Rating: If I were to make a rating based on the lead character’s acting, I’ll give it 3 stars out of five. If I rate on cinematography, supporting cast and music played, it might deserve 4 stars out of five.

Sad for Chalamet, he and A Complete Unknown failed to win any awards out of the 8 nominations they were shortlisted in. I told you so when this post was published on Feb 27.

Here are this week’s writing & creative prompts:

Poetry Monday March 3 2025

Prompt is “Station” from MiMi at https://messymimismeanderings.blogspot.com/

Station

My local train station is so crowded during peak hours that

attendants with batons or light sticks are deployed to herald passengers into the carriages.

Commuters are encouraged to cram into the carriages

like sardines into tin cans.

The instructions are:

“Don’t carry your knapsack and shoulder bag on your bodies.

Lay them on the floor so there is more room for your fellow commuters.”

Where is our dignity?

Inspiring Quote of the Week beginning Mar 3 2025:

“Don’t worry when you only have one fan.”

Erica Eng, the artist and writer of a graphic novella, Fried Rice, said she had only one fan when hse started posting pages of her art in her social media Instagram. When Fried Rice was published, it won the Best Webcomic Eisner and Ringo awards, in 2020.

This gives me hope. Even if there is but one fan, I should believe in my creativity and carry on.

Random Tuesday Thoughts Rebel

Bob Dylan’s biopic of his first four years breaking into the folk music industry told this important message. Dylan was A Complete Unknown, which is the title of this biopic. He was a rebel who finally plucked up courage to sing his songs with social themes and he gained real success. He used to abide with conventional industry advice to stay on the well trodden paths of singing covers of established musicians.

On the romance face, Bob didn’t fare well. According to the movie, he flirted with at least 3 women and they slipped through his nonchalant attitude. The man of words in songwriting was at a loss for words when it came to persuading his girlfriends to stay with him. Maybe one can’t be a rebel in love.
