Meditating on Ophelia

I was meditating on Ophelia, to understand her actions. Ophelia is a character in a play written by William Shakespeare. She mourns the death of her beloved father. Later, her grief increases when Hamlet betrays her and rejects her because he discovered she acted as a spy. Ophelia’s first grief was for the permanent loss of her dad. Her second grief was for losing Hamlet’s relationship.

Stages of grief/ mourning/ bereavement
Grieving, mourning, bereavement, loss and saying goodbye.

Ophelia could have entered the 5th stage of mourning; that is, finally accepting her father is gone forever and so has Hamlet. She has accepted and given up hope for any changes. So she lay in the water.

Here’s how ANYONE can paint Ophelia:

draw and paint a simple pic.
