I refer to the article in your newspaper, “Appeal to reduce noise pollution”, (September 1, 2026). I want to remind everybody that besides humans, there are flora and fauna who are equally affected by noise pollution. Animals communicate with their own species by making sounds and calls. When the environment is noisy, it interferes with their communication. At worst, the animals may move to another area in search of a quieter environment. This poses challenges as each habitat has different inherent conditions, flora and fauna. The animal as to learn, starting almost from square one. One of the most dangerous requirement is a source of drinking water.
We must not forget about the flora, who are immobile. They are dependent on the animals and their immediate environment for their survival. If the insects make their homes far away from them, they are unlikely to return to the same plants to eat nectar and pollinate the flowers. Humans will experience a change in the harvest and plant seasons.
I hope the media can help spread the knowledge of how noise affects flora and fauna, to conserve our ecosystem.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Cai.
