Anna by Terry Waltz: book review

The full title is

Anna 没办法, by Terry Waltz.

I couldn’t get the title pasted into WP’s title space. While WP’s body of post allows pasted foreign language script, its blank space for title does not.

This is a book to practice simplified Mandarin (Chinese script). Its written in conversational Chinese language which makes it practical, unlike stories, where you’ll encounter old fashioned idioms, proverbs and phrases which nobody uses anyway. I have been reading Mandarin/ Chinese language books for learners and they were not easy to use. “Anna 没办法” is wonderful in comparison.

The protagonist, student Anna, is gifted a trip to Taiwan for a holiday. Its her dream come true as her struggling parents would never be able to afford to pay that for her.

We accompany Anna as she navigates the day to day challenges of living life in a strange land, and with strangers. She sees how people in Taiwan live. She realises her life in the US is good.

I hope you’ll enjoy this book as much as I did.
