Tit for tat: Mindful Doodles #335

Mindful Doodles #335 – Tit for tat.

If he cheats me of $1000, then he should also be cheated of the same amount of money. That is tit for tat.

This Sunday, on Feb. 24 2019, the Roman Missal reading was on David and how he spared King Saul’s life, despite the latter putting a price on his head. The priest who delivered the homily said that we should not use a measure to please us when we cry out for justice after being wronged. It is not for us to judge how much punishment should be meted out to our bully. For example, if someone cheats me of $1000, then I should not say that my wrong can be righted only after my foe is cheated of $1000 himself. If my foe loses $500, I should not say that it is not fair because he took a bigger amount of money from me. God decides what is fair and He decides what is justice.

What do you think?

Justice or vengeance?
