A few years ago, I had met autonomous robot cleaners in malls, and in a private dentist’s clinic.
My setting has changed in recent weeks and months. I had been following news and developments of AI, Chat Bots, robots and AI enabled driverless vehicles for as long as they have been around.
In the US, around 26 states allow autonomous vehicles to pick up and send passengers, while more states are fighting with their state legislation, unions and other associations, on driverless taxis.
Elsewhere in the world, it is similar. Waymo, owned by Alphabet (Google’s parent company) has been applying for permissions to operate its autonomous taxis.
Waymo is coming to operate in my city in several months’ time.
Waymo has said its autonomous cars are safer than manual driven ones. In its defence, there has only been two noted accidents where a small child was hit and a cat was run over.
Personally, I would not hire a driverless car. I don’t trust machines and AI. I have reservations. If I were to be trapped in a driverless car, how would I get help? How would I unlock the car door?
