Three months ago, before Broken Foot came to be, the Healthy Foot wrote a letter to herself.
Dear Myself the Foot,
Hello. How are you? I hope you’re fine. I want to thank you, for helping the whole body, to perform chores like housework, watering the potted plants, grocery shopping, choosing books at the book store and attending Mass in church. All these were compulsory and Yet I sometimes groaned at the work. I didn’t appreciate my health.
I used to climb out of the window, to access the porch roof, one level down. I us had to climb down ed to walk on the flat, cemented flooring of the roof, to sweep up fallen leaves and pick up junk. It was nasty work, requiring strength to climb out of the second level window, and then climbing down a ladder, to reach the porch roof.
I’m only a Foot and I do as directed by my owner. The Ear has told she has heard things said by the neighbors. They had discussed about creating diversities, and extra work, for the Owner of the Body, to do. The Ear said the neighbors revealed they threw junk on the porch roof, so that the owner of the Body had to climb down to pick up trash. The neighbors had a jolly good time laughing and making fun of the Body. Another point of contention was that the Body was too poor to hire labor to do this frequent cleaning work. That was why she had to do this chore herself.
Dearest Foot, I love you as much as I love the other appendages. When you are a surefoot, you place yourself on steady footing and the rest of the body is safe. Please take care of yourself, in order that the rest of the body will also benefit from your presence.
Yours befittingly,
The Foot.
