This is why I think Sonia and Sunny didn’t win 2025 Booker Prize Award. There are some problems with Sonia and Sunny, which is why they didn’t win for Kiran Desai.
- If Sonia had meditated, she may not have felt so vulnerable being lonely. Then she may not have permitted herself to accept Ilan’s invitation to spend time with him at his house, which lead to her falling into a toxic relationship with him. Meditation builds up positive qualities in a person. Sonia would have strengthened her brain power to find solutions to handle her loneliness, instead of willingly stepping into Ilan’s lair.
- If Sunny had meditated, he probably would have improved his capacities to deal with his overbearing mother.
- The author used almost as many literary devices as the miles between India and America. Some of these are metaphors, tropes, superstitions, supernatural sightings, cultural taboos, myths, legends, cultural appropriations, shapeshifting, ghosts and etc.
