What is the Standing Pose Meditation? Basically, this is when you’e standing still comfortably and being aware. You need not be as still as a statue. You can shift your weight from one foot to your other foot, or distribute your weight equally on both feet.
When do you do the Standing Pose meditation? When you’re in the queue for something and the wait looks to be a while.
Pay attention to your body. Do you feel pain anywhere? Are your feet aching from being on the go for a long time? If you feel intolerable pain somewhere in your body, you could need to consult your regular physician to discover the cause. You’re using this time to pay attention to your body. Be thankful that you’re in good health and able to walk and stand. Life is good when you’re mobile.
You can look at the environment and people passing by. However, you don’t hold the thoughts. They are in your view for a brief moment and the stimulus is gone. If you have internal thoughts, let them run their course and don’t harp on the issues. The thoughts won’t linger to trouble you.
Are you angry for being kept waiting? You need not harm yourself by working up a stress. Please excuse the person or reason for being kept waiting. Maybe there are valid reasons for the delay. Remember the times when you kept someone waiting for you? Did you feel guilty for keeping another person waiting for you? Imagine now, when the situation is reversed. Do you think the other person feels bad for being late? Maybe they are late for reasons beyond their control.
If you can feel empathy for the opposite party, you won’t feel as angry as when you didn’t feel empathy for him/ her/ them.
You can spend this waiting time to practice your meditation. You’ll become calm and calmer as time passes. When your wait is over, you may not feel like lashing at the culprit who made you wait.
