The bible says Hell is a fiery place. Purgatory is also a hot place where souls sweat it out to pay for their transgressions during life.
The opposite of hot is to feel the chill. People who claim to have encountered ghosts said they felt the chill in the presence of ghosts. Since this knowledge is commonly known, the dreamer might have been reminded of the chill and the brain invented a dream that used this imagery.
