Writing about one small detail I’m particularly grateful for now

I thought for some time about the one small detail I’m particularly grateful for, right now. It is difficult to choose as I have so many big and small gifts which I’m grateful for, now and forever. I’ll start by thinking of the small details.

After a short break, I’ve returned to typing this post. I’ve chosen my one small detail to talk about here. It is about drinking a cup of hot water in the morning. Hot water helps me, even as it is plain hot water without any added stimulant. I even feel comfort from this water. I guess the heat warms my digestive tract and this feeling spreads.

Usually, I add a dash of syrup into my cup of hot water as I love the stimulant. I don’t eat big meals so a little pick-me-up once in a few hours is good.

I knew about the benefit of drinking hot water a long time ago but didn’t start this habit as I was skeptical about it. How can water make me feel better? Science has explained that our body comprises of 70% water. We lose water all the time in our breath, sweat, urine and excretions. We need to drink water to replace for the loss. We’re told we need to drink 2 1/2 liters of water daily.

A cup of hot water can be my comfort drink. It is a luxury to be able to obtain hot water. When I worked on location in places, I couldn’t get access to hot water. Sure, I could bring my own thermos flask but the heat could only be retained for about 3 hours. I would be able to enjoy hot water for the first 3 hours of filling my thermos flask. I used to be wildly happy to be able to drink my own hot water, because it was a privilege, of my own making as I took the trouble to pack my thermos flask.

These days, I consider packing my thermos flask if I need my comfort hot water.

Before I started my practice of drinking hot, I didn’t quite relish drinking water at room temperature. I preferred drinking cold water direct from the fridge. Cold water was bad for me if I drank it for a few days in a row direct. Often, I would feel an ache somewhere in my bone or muscle. Now, I would not be drinking refrigerated water for more than 2 days in a row. Conversely, there are no side effects from drinking hot water.

I like the taste of plain water. You may notice I didn’t say I like the taste of tap water. I don’t. The tap water in my area can sometimes taste flavored. With chlorine. That is why I always boil tap water before drinking it. I have different receptacles for storing lukewarm water on the kitchen counter, and cold water in the fridge.

One thing you’ve to watch out is to take small sips while drinking hot water. This avoids burning your lips, mouth, tongue and inner lining of your cheeks.

Even washing up my cup after drinking hot water has an advantage. It is so easy to wash my cup because there are no sticky sediments adhering to my cup.

In conclusion, the one small detail I’m grateful for, is drinking hot water. I’m grateful for seven good points in drinking hot water.

Do you have the habit of drinking hot water? If not, I urge you to try this.

I love this list of prompts, although I’m only a fledging beginning writer and can’t write decently. I wish that writing teacher would continue with her inspiring list of general prompts.
