The Fisherman King by Kathrina Mohd Daud is a love story infused with the male protagonist’s legacy. A fisherman discovers his royal lineage and starts his dangerous journey to recover his kingdom. His love, Bathia, is bitterly unforgiving as he abandoned her to set out in his quest. In the fatal confrontation with the giant serpent called the Nabau, Lisan wounds himself intending to commit suicide as a sacrifice. However, in an about turn, Bathia sacrifices herself because she loves him. Lisan manages to wrestle Bathia away from the snake, but she dies after being unable to convalescent. He is sad and never takes another woman again.
