Daily Writing Prompt April 13 2025: Jonah cancelled dinner when …
Jonah had to cancel dinner when his small boat overturned. Crap. He has a dinner appointment with his girlfriend. She’ll never forgive him. She had grumbled that he neglected her and didn’t spend enough time with her. She said she dolled up for him in vain every Saturday night, but he never took her out.
He fished his cell phone from his back pocket. Lucky for him, his pocket acted almost like a covering for his phone. It absorbed the sea water around it and prevented water from directly soaking it. The hand phone was not dry but it wasn’t wet either. Would it work? Its battery signal showed 1%.
He searched for his recently dialled numbers and speed dialled his gal. He was apologetic when he spoke to XX using his cell phone. Lucky for him, the transmitter managed to ping to a telecommunication tower. He got a signal to call.
“Hi, Honey. I’m sorry I have to cancel for dinner.”
The line went dead. She hung up on him.
That’s it. Jonah’s bridge to help is burned. Now, who can he call for help? He glanced at the battery indicator – 0%.
Doomed.
The End.
Maybe he should have started with, “You’ll never believe where I’m calling you from…”
You wrote a very fun story, and I can’t imagine a prophet being very good for dating.
I’m sorry. I have edited parts of it. This Jonah has become a different Jonah. It was the writing prompt who gave the name Jonah and that was how I got the idea. Thank you for the kind reprimand.
