This is a general description to encompass a broad category of dreams that share the same meaning. When you dream of knowingly or unwittingly using an item that does not belong to you, it can suggest a part of your personality trying to show a degree of power by exerting its influence, and making its presence known. It has chosen the seemingly unusual and abnormal choice as it tries to step out of the unconscious, to make its choice seen and known.
Here is a simple theory. The super ego is the moral police who balances the ego and id. The id, who has been restrained, may have temporarily wrestled some power to exhibit its choice. The ego is the conscious persona presented to the public. The id is like its shadow, lurking at the feet, waiting for chances to show its choices. Since the id desires to derive pleasure without regard to the usual persona, it behaves like a counter-persona. However, we need to remember that the id by definition, is much more deviant. It is self indulgent in its pleasure seeking.
