Zadie Smith was day dreaming of peonies. In her latest book of essays, Intimations, Smith says she prefers to see peonies to tulips. She realizes Coronavirus is the earmark to a new beginning of what will be defined as the new normal. Even the tulips which sprung up in a tiny piece of soil are a testament to that. The beginnings of life after the onset of Covid-19. The Universe sends tulips instead of peonies to grow at the intersection of cross roads. This is poignant.
Smith prefers to see peonies, which symbolize wealth, stability, good luck and the continuation of a happy marriage. The denial of peonies in the day, may lead to dreaming of peonies at night.
