Do you sometimes hear your beloved calling you?

Do you sometimes hear your baby crying? Or your child calling “Mommy, Mommy”?

Alice Vincent’s book, “Hark How women listen”, talks about how mothers hear their babies crying. This book is published by Canongate and its official release is on May 1, 2025. That is Labor Day in some countries and this coincidence looks like a commemoration to a mother’s labor, caring for her infant from its cradle to adulthood, until the mother dies. Financial Times Weekend (April 26-27 2025) has printed an article which is a sneak preview of Ms Vincent’s book.

Have you heard your baby or child cry and upon checking on their baby, they see that their infant is sleeping peacefully. This isn’t a coincidence. It is a common phenomena. A mother’s love can be so protective, anxious and encompassing that she imagines her baby is crying for her attention. She hears the cries in her head. She is otherwise normal, without other symptoms of schizophrenia.
