Why You Should Meditate In The Morning #20

Why should you meditate in your morning?

It is best to “program” your brain to be relaxed, so that it can be alert to receive stimulations and respond in a measuredly calm manner. It is like starting the day with a blank slate, having erased the previous day’s stress. You may not have solved all problems, but let your mind be open to receive. this new day. You make yourself free to receive your eureka moment, when you see how a problem can be solved.

How much time to spend in meditation?

You can start with as little time as you can sacrifice, for meditation in your morning. Ten minutes may seem too brief, but this depends on how much time you can spare to take care of yourself, before you start your morning. This time is yours.

Why you can meditate in bed

Some people start their morning meditation immediately after waking up, in bed. If you won’t fall back asleep, then it is alright to meditate in bed. Its because after you arise from bed, you have to do your toiletting, personal hygiene, grooming and dressing. Many thoughts have entered your brain, as your stream of consciousness wanders.

If you feel that you absolutely must arise and get ready before any meditation, that is also well and good.

What to do for early morning meditation?

When you do your meditation first thing in the morning, you don’t need to use complicated aids. You can focus on your breathing. Breathe slowly as you draw in air. Breathe out slowly.

Your busy mind will be thinking of current issues, complicated and simple. Relax. Concentrate on your breathing. Let go of other thoughts. Replace external thoughts with one of breathing.

Hear your breathing.

Feel each intake of air into your nostrils.

Feel your breath leave your nostrils.

Do you smell anything in your bedroom? Does your room smell stale and musty? Any lingering perfume, air purifier scent or air freshener scent? Tell yourself its alright. Continue breathing.

If you must think, think of your breathing, tell yourself to revert to this slow and relaxed breathing throughout today.

Please keep a Meditation Journal. Write the date, and your thoughts.
