Who wrote lists to manage depression & nightmares?

Virginia Woolfe wrote lists of inventories of her bed sheets, pillow cases, table cloths, and other household items. She tracked their use from storage to the laundry pile. This reduced her stress of domestic management. She had suffered from stress, depression and one can imagine, nightmares too. From 1912, she had symptoms of stress, mental breakdown and even attempted suicide.

Virginia was relocated to live in the countryside of Asheham. During the later part of her long convalescence, she had guests and she wrote lists of her domestic supplies to ensure her household ran smoothly to provide a comfortable stay for her visitors.

Writing lists helped Virginia Woolf in many ways. She was occupied productively and didn’t spend time on negative thoughts. The lists rooted her in domesticities, and practical life. Years after her convalescence, she tried to return to remembering lists to hold on to an anchor for sanity.
