Yes and no. I make new friends but at a superficial level of friendship. I had many years of sacrificing for my family and friends. I went down to the level of near starvation when times were very bad. Even then, the vultures were circling and waiting. I believe God’s Hand swooped down to scoop me up from harm. Now, I’m wary and weary of fake friends, friends for benefit, networking and all that fakery.

I was not meant to climb the Eiffel Tower. My plane had a stopover in Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris. I was too sick to leave the airport to go sight-seeing. I had vertigo on the flight and immediately after landing. My B.P. did not allow me to function normally. For my entire life, I had been reading about the Eiffel Tower and Paris. After about a fortnight, we flew home. Unknown to us in mid-air, Paris was suffering a terrorist attack on November 15, 2015. All flights from Paris had to be given extra security screening. When we landed on our homeland, it was mayhem because of the disorderly crowd around the screeners. The security team was assembled in a haphazard way. We got through without incident. Now, whenever I see a photo of the Eiffel Tower, it reminds me of the terrorist attacks of November 15 2015.

It has been three months since a swindler targeted a victim. His pride and ego refused to concede defeat even after police were notified. His scams evolved deeper into crime as he plotted murder in broad daylight. He tried to recruit mercenaries and accomplices to kill for money.
Neighbors in two blocks of apartments heard the swindler talking loudly as he conducted recruitment drives to hire killers. None of the witnesses want to speak to the police because they fear retribution.
This story repeats the everyday occurrence of The Bystander Effect, originally formulated after the murder of Kitty Genovese in 1964. The more bystanders who hear or witness an event, the less likely any of this crowd would take any action. They world defer personal action, to wait for others to take responsibility instead.
The arm of law may not be long in this case, but karma is patient.
